What is kombucha?
Kombucha is a lightly-sparkling soft drink made from tea, with a refreshing fermented kick.
Kombucha was first used in Ancient Chineese Medicine thousands of years ago to improve digestion and other stomach issues. It contains healthy bacteria, yeasts and organic acids.
The taste profile is refreshing, full-bodied and lightly sparkling.
Does Kombucha Contain Sugar?
Yes, kombucha does contain a small amount of sugar—but not as much as you might think. Sugar is essential for the fermentation process, as it feeds the SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) and helps create kombucha’s signature tangy flavor. However, most of the organic cane sugar added at the start is consumed during fermentation. On average, our raw, organic kombucha bottles contain around 3.1 grams of sugar per 100ml, making it a lower-sugar alternative to soda and other sweetened drinks.
Since our kombucha is raw, alive, unpasteurised & a fermented beverage, always store it chilled to maintain its probiotic benefits and freshness. Failure to keep these bottles in the fridge may result in a pressure build up.
Does Kombucha Contain Alcohol?
Kombucha is a soft drink, but it does contain "trace alcohol".
Like all fermented products, a small amount of alcohol is naturally produced during the fermentation process. However, the levels are typically very low—well below the legal threshold for alcoholic beverages.
To keep kombucha’s alcohol content stable, it’s essential to store it in the fridge. (If left at warm temperatures, fermentation can continue, potentially increasing the alcohol content over time).
If you’re pregnant or have specific health concerns, we recommend consulting your GP before adding kombucha to your diet.
Does Kombucha Contain Caffeine?
Yes, kombucha does contain caffeine, but only in low amounts—much less than a typical cup of tea or coffee. The caffeine content varies depending on the brand and brewing process.
Our kombucha is made with a unique blend of four teas:
Sencha Green Tea from China – Contains caffeine
Early Grey Tea from India – Contains caffeine
Yerba Mate from Brazil – Contains caffeine
Rooibos – Naturally caffeine-free
During fermentation, about one-third of the caffeine remains, making kombucha a great option for those looking to reduce their caffeine intake while still enjoying a refreshing, energizing drink.
