Beating the Seasonal Blues with Kombucha: The Gut-Mood Connection

Beating the Seasonal Blues with Kombucha: The Gut-Mood Connection

I know this time of year can be tough. The clocks have gone back, the days are getting shorter, it’s getting harder to get out of bed in the mornings, and sometimes this can dampen our mood.

Whilst we can’t control the weather, looking after our gut health can lift our spirits when we’re feeling down. Did you know that about 90% of serotonin, the neurotransmitter that makes us feel happy, is produced in the gut?* A healthy gut microbiome, which consists of trillions of bacteria, plays a crucial role in maintaining this balance and, consequently, our mood.

So, taking better care of your gut is a great place to start in helping boost your mood. This is where kombucha steps in - regularly drinking authentic kombucha has been shown to help balance the gut microbiome, due to its probiotic properties.** Plus it’s a delicious treat, which works as a little pick-me-up!

What else can you do to lift your mood?

  • Try to get outside and soak in as much sunlight as you can - Vitamin D affects our moods
  • Get some exercise and release some mood-boosting endorphins
  • Spend time with others
  • Maintain a healthy, balanced diet.

Take care this Winter, and show yourself the love you deserve.
